Ash Eruption at Volcán de Fuego, Guatemala

Volcán de Fuego rises 3,763 meters near Antigua, Guatemala, and ranks among the most active volcanoes in Central America. It has erupted almost continuously since 2002, with frequent ash columns and periodic lava flows that affect nearby villages. Guatemala's National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (INSIVUMEH) monitors the volcano around the clock, issuing alerts when activity intensifies. Its name, Spanish for "Fire," a history of eruptions recorded since the 16th century, including a major explosive event in 1932.
