Belize

Ambergris Caye, Belize’s largest island, sits off the northeastern coast of the country adjacent to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, and San Pedro Town on its eastern shore remains the island’s commercial and residential center. Secret Beach, on the island’s northwest coast, shifted from an informal local swimming spot into a busy destination after roughly 2015, drawing beach bars, pier-based businesses, and lagoon-edge construction that has continued to reshape that side of the island. San Pedro itself shows the pressures of rapid growth through its dense rooftop lines, active construction sites, and utility infrastructure, alongside small wood-frame lodging, resort hotels, and public murals addressing child protection and HIV/AIDS awareness.
