TD Garden opened in 1995 as the FleetCenter, replacing the old Boston Garden next door, and serves today as home to the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics. The arena seats roughly 19,600 for hockey and up to 19,156 for basketball, among the larger capacities in the NHL and NBA. The Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge, completed in 2002 as part of the Big Dig, carries Interstate 93 across the Charles River between the North End and Charlestown. At 1,432 feet long with ten traffic lanes, it ranks among the widest cable-stayed bridges in the world, and its twin towers were designed to echo the nearby Bunker Hill Monument.
