The Minneapolis Police Third Precinct sits on Lake Street in South Minneapolis, and it was here that protesters gathered after Joe Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election. A demonstrator's hand-lettered "No Coup" sign spoke to fears that Donald Trump would refuse to concede the race. The precinct building had been burned during the unrest following George Floyd's death in May 2020, and by this gathering it remained fenced off and reinforced with concrete barriers as the department continued to operate out of temporary quarters elsewhere in the city.
