Elevated Train Passing Beneath Viaduct, Nippori Station, Tokyo

Nippori Station sits on Tokyo's Yamanote loop, one of the busiest rail corridors in the world, and also serves as a stop for the Keisei Main Line and the Joban Line. Keisei trains departing here run the Skyliner service to Narita International Airport, making Nippori one of two direct boarding points for that route along with Ueno. The station opened in 1905 as part of the expanding rail network on Tokyo's east side, and its elevated platforms now sit beneath a tangle of viaducts carrying both rail lines and roadways above the tracks. Nearby Nippori is also known as the gateway to Yanaka, one of the few Tokyo districts that survived World War II bombing largely intact.
