This commercial strip sits near Nippori Station, on the border of Tokyo's Arakawa ward. Nippori Station itself opened in 1905 and today serves as a junction for JR East's Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku lines along with the Keisei Main Line, which connects to Narita Airport. The area grew as a retail and entertainment district serving commuters passing through the station, with pachinko parlors, bars, and convenience stores like FamilyMart clustered along its narrow streets. It sits at the edge of Yanaka, a neighborhood known for having survived both the 1923 earthquake and World War II firebombing largely intact, making it one of the few parts of central Tokyo with prewar buildings still standing nearby.
