Keisei Line Transfer Sign, Nippori Station, Tokyo

Nippori Station sits on the boundary of Arakawa and Taito wards, where JR East's Yamanote, Keihin-Tohoku, and Joban lines meet the Keisei Electric Railway's Main Line. The JR station opened in 1905; Keisei's adjacent station followed in 1931, giving the interchange its long-standing role as a transfer point between the city's loop line and the Keisei network. That connection matters chiefly for the Keisei Skyliner, which uses this line to reach Narita International Airport in about 40 minutes from Nippori, making the station a common stop for travelers switching from JR trains to airport-bound service. The elevated steel walkway and directional signage marking the transfer date to the station's postwar rebuilding and have changed little since, even as ridership through the interchange has grown with airport traffic.
