A residential street in Marktown, East Chicago, Indiana, runs toward large industrial buildings at the edge of the neighborhood. Marktown was developed beginning in 1917 as a planned company town by the Mark Manufacturing Company, with compact worker housing built next to the industrial corridor of Indiana Harbor. The neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains one of the most intact examples of early 20th-century industrial worker housing in northwest Indiana.
