Park Street Station opened in 1897 as the first subway station built in the United States, constructed beneath Boston Common to ease surface traffic on Tremont Street. It remains a transfer point between the Red and Green Lines, with signage here marking Green Line service toward Copley Square and points west. The Bank of America advertisement promotes "Find a Runner, Help a Cause," a Boston Marathon charity-bib program run through the Boston Athletic Association that pairs race entries with fundraising for participating nonprofits.
