This control room sits inside ArcelorMittal's Indiana Harbor works in East Chicago, Indiana, one of the largest integrated steel mills in North America. Banks of relay cabinets and wiring line the space alongside a worn test bench fitted with switches, gauges, and indicator lights used to check electrical components pulled from the mill floor. Indiana Harbor traces its roots to Inland Steel, which opened the plant in 1902 before it became part of ArcelorMittal following the 2006 merger of Mittal Steel and Arcelor. Rooms like this one supported the maintenance of motors, switchgear, and control systems that kept rolling and finishing lines running across the sprawling complex.
