ArcelorMittal's Indiana Harbor works in East Chicago sits along Lake Michigan and ranks among the largest integrated steel mills in North America. The complex traces its roots to Inland Steel, which began operations at the site in 1902 before a series of mergers brought it under the ArcelorMittal name in 2006. Steel mills of this scale rely on overhead crane systems and raised walkways like this one to move workers safely above active production lines. Caged mesh barriers separate personnel pathways from heavy machinery and material handling equipment operating below.
