ArcelorMittal's Indiana Harbor plant in East Chicago sits along Lake Michigan and is the largest integrated steel mill in North America. The complex spans several miles of lakefront and includes blast furnaces, rolling mills, and the long carbon bar operations that supply wire rod and bar products to manufacturers. Service corridors like this one carry electrical conduit and piping between production areas, feeding power and controls to equipment throughout the mill. Indiana Harbor traces its origins to Inland Steel, which began operations at the site in the early 20th century before later consolidations brought it under the ArcelorMittal name.
