ArcelorMittal's Indiana Harbor works sits along Lake Michigan in East Chicago, Indiana, formed from the 1998 merger of Inland Steel's facilities with other integrated mill operations. The complex ranks among the largest integrated steelmaking sites in North America, producing long carbon products including bar and rod used in construction and manufacturing. Rail spurs like this one move billets and semi-finished steel between furnaces, rolling mills, and storage yards across the sprawling plant grounds. ArcelorMittal, the world's largest steelmaker by output, has operated the Indiana Harbor site since acquiring it in 2006.
