Bde Maka Ska — formerly known as Lake Calhoun — is the largest lake in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and part of the Chain of Lakes regional park. Its Dakota name means “White Earth Lake,” reflecting the area’s deep Indigenous heritage as a gathering place of the Dakota people. The lake spans roughly 400 acres and features a 3-mile multi-use path for walking, running, and cycling. Surrounded by beaches, parkland, and skyline views, Bde Maka Ska is a cultural and recreational hub that blends natural beauty, urban energy, and Native history in the heart of Minneapolis.
