Canoes and Kayaks Stacked in Snow at Sunset, Bde Maka Ska

Canoes and kayaks in the snow in Minneapolis
Canoes and kayaks are stacked on the snowy shore of Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at sunset. This urban lake, formerly known as Lake Calhoun, is the largest in Minneapolis and a central feature of the city's Chain of Lakes. Throughout the year, Bde Maka Ska serves as a popular destination for outdoor activities, including paddling in warmer months and ice skating or walking on the frozen surface during winter. The lake holds cultural significance for the Dakota people, who originally named it Bde Maka Ska, meaning 'White Earth Lake' or 'White Bank Lake,' a name officially restored in 2018.
