Street barricades are visible at the intersection of Hennepin Avenue and Lake Street in Minneapolis, following protests in August 2021. These protests were sparked by the deaths of Winston Smith and Deona Marie. Smith was killed by officers from a Federal Task Force serving a warrant, while Marie died when a driver, Nicholas Kraus, struck protesters demonstrating against Smith's killing. The barricades and caution tape indicate a disruption to normal traffic flow and public access in the Uptown Minneapolis area.
