Broken Doorframes and Glass Debris at George Air Force Base
Taken December 2011
George Air Force Base operated near Victorville, California, from 1941 until it closed in 1992 as part of a nationwide round of military base realignments. It served as a training installation for Tactical Air Command fighter pilots through much of the Cold War. Since closure, many of its former buildings have sat empty, with door frames, glass, and interior fixtures stripped or destroyed over decades of exposure and vandalism. Part of the base's runways and support facilities were later absorbed into Southern California Logistics Airport, though a large share of the original structures remain vacant.
