Police presence at Uptown Minneapolis protest zone, Lake Street
Police vehicles are present on Lake Street in Uptown Minneapolis, near the site of protests that followed the killings of Winston Smith and Deona Marie in June 2021. Smith was killed by officers from a Federal Task Force serving a warrant, and Marie was killed when a driver struck protesters. The area became a focal point for community grief and activism, with barricades and memorials established in the weeks following the incidents.
