Trump Flags Fill Summit Avenue at the Governor’s Residence

The Minnesota Governor's Residence at 1006 Summit Avenue has served as the state's official executive residence since 1965, when businessman Charles W. Gillette donated the Tudor-style mansion to the state. Summit Avenue itself is one of the best-preserved Victorian boulevards in the country, lined with mansions built by railroad and lumber barons in the late 19th century. On November 14, 2020, supporters gathered along the avenue for a "Stop the Steal" rally contesting the results of the presidential election, carrying Trump 2020 flags and signs disputing Joe Biden's victory. The residence's public-facing location on a major St. Paul thoroughfare has made it a recurring site for demonstrations directed at the sitting governor.
