Washington Avenue Bridge over Mississippi River, Minneapolis
The Washington Avenue Bridge, a maroon and gold steel truss structure in Minneapolis, crosses the Mississippi River, connecting University of Minnesota campuses and supporting traffic.
The Washington Avenue Bridge spans the Mississippi River, linking the University of Minnesota's East and West Bank campuses. Completed in 1965, it carries vehicles, pedestrians, and light rail on two levels, with the enclosed upper deck reserved for foot traffic between classes. Its maroon and gold paint and the university's "M" emblem mark it as campus property rather than a city-owned crossing. The riverbank below is part of the Mississippi River Gorge, the only true gorge along the river's entire length.
