Community Art Traffic Calming, 16th Ave S, Minneapolis

A traffic calming device in South Minneapolis
Community-created art installations function as traffic calming measures on 16th Avenue South and East 31st Street in South Minneapolis. These artistic barriers are part of local efforts to manage vehicle speed and enhance pedestrian safety in residential areas. Following the 2020 Minneapolis Uprising, many neighborhoods implemented community-led initiatives to reclaim public spaces and address local concerns, including traffic safety. The installations, featuring figures and a sign reading 'BIENVENIDOS / WELCOME,' reflect community engagement and a desire for safer, more welcoming streets.
