The Cabooze sits at 917 Cedar Avenue South in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, part of Minneapolis's West Bank entertainment district. Opened in the early 1970s, it's one of the city's longest-running live music venues, having hosted acts ranging from local punk and blues bands to national touring artists. The Joint Bar operates next door in the same stretch of Cedar Avenue, part of the same cluster of nightlife businesses that has defined the West Bank for decades. In March 2020, both venues went dark under Minnesota's COVID-19 shutdown orders, and The Cabooze's marquee was changed to read "IT WILL GET BETTER."
