Minnesota National Guard soldiers and a Humvee are stationed on Washington Avenue in Minneapolis's North Loop neighborhood during the trial of Derek Chauvin in April 2021. The presence of military personnel was part of "Operation Safety Net," a joint effort by state and local law enforcement and the National Guard to maintain order and protect property during the highly publicized trial. The trial followed the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer in May 2020, which sparked widespread protests and unrest in the city and across the nation.
