The Midtown Greenway in South Minneapolis is a multi-use trail built on a former railroad corridor. Opened in phases starting in 2001, it connects the Mississippi River to the Chain of Lakes. The trail serves as a vital transportation and recreation artery, allowing cyclists and pedestrians to travel through the city separated from vehicular traffic.
