Marquette Avenue runs through the heart of downtown Minneapolis and serves as a primary corridor for Metro Transit's bus network. The METRO Orange Line, which opened in 2021, connects downtown to Burnsville along a dedicated bus rapid transit route running parallel to Interstate 35W. Marquette Avenue also sits beneath several segments of the Minneapolis Skyway System, an 8-mile network of enclosed pedestrian bridges connecting downtown buildings at the second-story level, first built in 1962 and now the largest continuous skyway system in the world.
