Fifth Element Murals, Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis Uprising

Boarded storefront murals at Fifth Element on Hennepin Avenue in Uptown Minneapolis, June 2020.
Boarded storefronts at Fifth Element on Hennepin Avenue in Uptown Minneapolis are covered with murals and protest messages in June 2020. The plywood panels include hand-painted portraits, “Black Lives Matter” text, and a memorial sign for George Floyd, whose killing on May 25, 2020, led many businesses across Minneapolis to install protective boarding. In this block, the temporary coverings became surfaces for memorials and protest art during a period of unrest and heightened security.
