The Irene Hixon Whitney Bridge links Loring Park to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden at the Walker Art Center, carrying pedestrians and cyclists over Interstate 94. Minneapolis artist and MIT design professor Siah Armajani designed the bridge, which opened in 1988 and stretches roughly 375 feet in a bowstring-arch form of steel and wood. The skyline behind it is anchored by Capella Tower, completed in 1992 and capped with a lattice crown that once displayed a rotating color scheme, and the IDS Center, Minnesota's tallest building at 792 feet since 1972. Both towers stand within the city's central business district, a short walk from Loring Park.
