Uncle Hugo’s Bookstore Burned Remains, Minneapolis

Burned interior of Uncle Hugo's Bookstore on Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis, June 2020.
The burned interior of Uncle Hugo’s Science Fiction Bookstore is shown on Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis in June 2020. The longtime independent bookstore was destroyed by fire during the unrest that followed the May 25, 2020, killing of George Floyd. Charred walls, collapsed framing, and piles of burned books and debris fill the gutted building. Uncle Hugo’s operated alongside its sister business, Uncle Edgar’s Mystery Bookstore, and had long been a well-known destination for science fiction and mystery readers.
