South Minneapolis Makeshift Barricades, George Floyd Unrest

Makeshift barricades on a South Minneapolis street during the George Floyd unrest in June 2020.
Makeshift barricades on a residential street in South Minneapolis block traffic during the unrest following the killing of George Floyd in late May and early June 2020. The barriers consist of orange traffic barrels, official roadwork signs reading “Sidewalk Closed Ahead 1 Block,” and a household yard-waste bin placed across the roadway at night. Residents in parts of South Minneapolis set up street closures like these to restrict vehicle access and create controlled neighborhood entry points during the period of protests and unrest.
