Protesters hold "Black Lives Matter" signs on Lake Street at Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis. The protest was in response to the law enforcement killing of Winston Smith on June 3, 2021, and Deona Marie on June 13, 2021. Marie was killed when Nicholas Kraus drove his vehicle into protesters demonstrating against Smith's death. The incident highlighted ongoing tensions and activism surrounding police brutality and racial justice in the city.
