The previous evening, Daunte Wright, a Black man, was shot and killed by Brooklyn Center Police officer Kim Potter during a traffic stop. His death sparked protests and unrest in the Minneapolis suburb. State Patrol officers, identifiable by their riot gear and "State Trooper" patches, were deployed to maintain order amidst the ongoing public reaction to Wright's killing.
