This deployment occurred during a period of heightened tension and unrest in the city, following the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent trial of Derek Chauvin. The National Guard was activated to support local law enforcement and maintain order amidst widespread protests against police brutality. The Hennepin County Government Center, a prominent civic building in downtown Minneapolis, served as a focal point during these events.
