A Minnesota National Guard vehicle is parked on Lake Street in Minneapolis following the killing of Daunte Wright by police in nearby Brooklyn Center. The presence of military vehicles on city streets was a response to unrest and protests that occurred in the days following Wright's death, which echoed the larger demonstrations that took place in the city after the murder of George Floyd in 2020. Businesses along Lake Street had boarded up their windows and storefronts in anticipation of potential damage, a common sight during periods of civil unrest in the city.
