Jacob Frey has served as mayor of Minneapolis since 2018, winning a second term in the November 2021 election. This campaign mailer pairs his image with a uniformed Minneapolis police officer and the message "We need real reform and safer neighborhoods. Keep Mayor Frey working for us." Frey's re-election bid came roughly 18 months after the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer, an event that pushed policing policy to the center of the city's politics. Minneapolis voters that same November also rejected a ballot measure that would have replaced the police department with a new Department of Public Safety, leaving Frey's more incremental reform platform intact.
