Smoke over Lake Street, Minneapolis Uprising

Smoke rises over the Lake Street corridor in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the early hours of May 30, 2020, as fires burn during protests following the death of George Floyd. The photograph looks across South Minneapolis at a broad plume spreading above mid-rise residential and institutional buildings. Lake Street, a major commercial artery, sustained extensive fire damage and business losses during the unrest that followed Floyd’s killing by Minneapolis police.
