Fallen Logs Along a Forest Trail, Superior National Forest

Superior National Forest covers roughly 3 million acres in northeastern Minnesota, managed by the U.S. Forest Service. It contains more than 445,000 acres of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, the most-visited wilderness area in the country. The forest is dominated by boreal species like jack pine, spruce, and birch, with a mix of maple and aspen contributing to fall color displays. Fallen logs and pine needle litter along its trails are typical of the mixed conifer-hardwood stands found throughout the region.
