The former Dayton's department store building spans the block bounded by Nicollet Mall, Seventh Street and Eighth Street in downtown Minneapolis. Built in stages beginning in 1902 for the Goodfellow Dry Goods Company, the structure grew to more than 1.2 million square feet under Dayton's and later Macy's ownership. Macy's closed its downtown store in 2017, and United Properties purchased the property for a mixed-use redevelopment known as The Dayton's Project. The renovation added office space, retail, and a food hall while preserving much of the original masonry structure, with portions reopening in stages starting in 2019.
