Tower Crane at High-Rise Construction Site, Downtown Minneapolis

Downtown Minneapolis has added several high-rise towers in recent years, with cranes marking active construction sites across the skyline. Tower cranes like this one are typically rated to lift several tons and can reach heights well above the buildings under construction, disassembling floor by floor as the structure tops out. Projects of this scale generally take two to three years to complete, from foundation work through final finishes. Downtown's building boom has included residential, hotel, and mixed-use developments concentrated near the Mississippi riverfront and the Nicollet Mall corridor.
