The previous day, Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, was killed during a traffic stop by Officer Kim Potter, who was a veteran of the force. Wright's death sparked protests and unrest in Brooklyn Center, a suburb of Minneapolis. The police station was fortified with fencing and barricades in anticipation of further demonstrations.
