The Main Energy Plant sits along the Mississippi River on the University of Minnesota's Minneapolis campus. It supplies steam and electricity to buildings across the university's East Bank and West Bank campuses through a district energy system. A railroad bridge crosses the river adjacent to the plant, carrying freight lines through the university area.
