Berlin Hauptbahnhof is Germany's largest railway station and a key interchange in the national and Berlin S-Bahn rail networks. The station's multi-level design stacks regional and long-distance platforms beneath upper concourses lined with shops and services, connected by a network of escalators and stairways. Opened in 2006, it replaced several older Berlin terminals to consolidate east-west and north-south rail traffic through the city center.
