Berlin Hauptbahnhof Lower Platforms, North-South Corridor

Lower platforms at Berlin Hauptbahnhof
The lower-level platforms of Berlin Hauptbahnhof, situated approximately 15 meters below street level, are a crucial component of Germany's north-south high-speed rail corridor. Opened in 2006 with the station's main hall, this underground section facilitates long-distance and regional train services, including those utilizing the Tiergarten tunnel. The architectural style, characterized by polished concrete, steel, and subdued lighting, reflects Deutsche Bahn's early 2000s design aesthetic. Platforms 1 through 8 are dedicated to ICE and IC services connecting Berlin with major cities, while the upper levels provide access to the S-Bahn and U-Bahn networks.
