New York-New York Hotel and Casino opened on January 3, 1997, on the Las Vegas Strip at the corner of Tropicana Avenue. The resort was developed by Primm Valley Resorts and designed to echo the Manhattan skyline, with towers modeled after real New York skyscrapers including the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. A 150-foot replica of the Statue of Liberty stands near the entrance, along with scaled versions of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Grand Central Terminal facade. The property's roller coaster, built by Bolliger & Mabillard, loops around the exterior of the casino and was one of the first thrill rides integrated into a Las Vegas hotel complex. MGM Resorts International has owned and operated the property since its 2005 acquisition of Mandalay Resort Group.
