New York-New York Hotel & Casino sits at 3790 Las Vegas Boulevard South, on the corner of the Strip and Tropicana Avenue. It opened in January 1997, built by Primm Valley Casino Resorts and Bally Entertainment at a cost of roughly $460 million. The property's towers, ranging from 40 to 47 stories, were designed as scaled-down versions of the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, and other Manhattan skyscrapers, with a combined room count of about 2,024. The Statue of Liberty replica standing at the entrance measures about 150 feet from base to torch, roughly a third the size of the original in New York Harbor. The Big Apple Coaster, formerly known as the Manhattan Express, runs through the property's rooftop and street-level cityscape and reaches speeds near 67 miles per hour. MGM Resorts International has owned and operated the resort since 2005.
