Hands Off! Minnesota State Capitol Protest

25,000 at the Minnesota State Capitol on April 5, 2025, with signs targeting Trump and Musk

On April 5, 2025, an estimated 25,000 people gathered on the grounds of the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul as part of the nationwide "Hands Off!" protests. The rally was one of hundreds held across the country that day, directed at the Trump administration and, in particular, at Elon Musk's role in the federal government through the Department of Government Efficiency.

The "Hands Off!" movement coalesced in response to sweeping federal workforce reductions, cuts to public programs, and what organizers described as the consolidation of governmental power outside normal democratic channels. Senator Amy Klobuchar addressed the crowd from the Capitol steps. Concerns voiced by participants ranged from the future of federal land management and national parks to the treatment of civil servants and the influence of billionaires over public policy. The Minnesota State Patrol's crowd estimate of 25,000 made the St. Paul rally one of the larger state-level turnouts in the national day of action.
