Reverend Al Sharpton, a prominent civil rights activist, arrived at the Hennepin County Government Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, alongside the family of George Floyd. They were present for a press conference held outside the courthouse before the opening statements of the Derek Chauvin trial. The trial, which began on March 29, 2021, concerned the death of George Floyd, an African American man whose killing by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was captured on video and sparked widespread protests against police brutality.
