Minnesota Governor’s Residence, Summit Avenue, Saint Paul

The Minnesota Governor's Residence sits at 1006 Summit Avenue in Saint Paul's Summit Hill neighborhood. Lumber baron Horace Hills Irvine commissioned the Tudor Jacobean-style home in 1910, with architect William Channing Whitney designing the 20-room house. The Irvine family donated the property to the state in 1965, and it has served as the official residence of Minnesota's governor ever since. Tim Walz and his family have lived there since he took office in 2019. Summit Avenue itself runs nearly five miles from the Mississippi River to the Cathedral of St. Paul and is recognized as the longest stretch of preserved Victorian residential architecture in the United States.
