Calle Bucareli runs through Mexico City's Colonia Juárez, just west of the Centro Histórico. The street takes its name from Antonio María de Bucareli y Ursúa, a Spanish viceroy of New Spain in the 1770s. It has long been a commercial corridor lined with hotels, cantinas, and shops catering to travelers passing between downtown and the Paseo de la Reforma corridor. The Hotel Bucareli, whose neon sign marks the street, has operated in the area for decades as one of several budget lodgings serving the district.
