Boarded storefronts covered with murals line West Lake Street in Minneapolis in the early hours of June 7, 2020. The painted plywood panels include messages such as “Justice 4 George,” “Black Lives Matter,” “I Can’t Breathe,” and “I Have a Dream,” displayed across retail spaces protected after damage and unrest following the police killing of George Floyd in late May 2020. The murals turned the temporary barriers into a highly visible corridor of memorial and protest art along one of the city’s main commercial streets.
