Gateway Arch Rises Above the Old Courthouse in St. Louis

The Old Courthouse's cast-iron dome, completed in 1862, rises in front of the Gateway Arch in downtown St. Louis. The courthouse served as the site of the first two trials in the Dred Scott case, in which an enslaved man sued for his freedom, and later hosted Virginia Minor's 1870s lawsuit over women's voting rights. It's a National Historic Landmark and is administered by the National Park Service as part of Gateway Arch National Park.
